These summer review task cards are designed to help students get excited about learning over vacation. These task cards are appropriate for students entering grades 3 through 5. Most of these authentic tasks can be completed by students with little to no adult help and without any materials other than paper and pencil. Also, most of the tasks can be repeated over and over, so students can use their favorites many times over the summer!

•Introductory Poem (2 clip art choices included)

•60 beach ball task cards (2 months worth of daily learning activities!)

The tasks are a blend of reading, writing, math, and science. In designing the tasks, I studied the Common Core standards for grades 2-5 and created activities that were either directly tied to specific standards, or would help students access those standards.

Summer learning loss can be so frustrating. When we say goodbye to our students in June, we send them off with fingers crossed that they will spend time reading and practicing their skills over the summer. But it can be hard to motivate students to hold themselves accountable for this work. These task cards are a fun way to battle summer learning loss and help keep skills sharp over summer vacation.

Give students the task cards and let them color in the beach balls and cut out the cards themselves. This will give students the chance to study the activities ahead of time and get excited about the things they can do.

1) Punch a hole in each card. Put the cards on a binder ring so students have easy access to them over the summer. (You may wish to print them on cardstock and/or laminate them if you plan on putting them on a binder ring.)

2) Print the beach balls on regular paper. After students have cut out the cards, glue each beach ball onto one page of a notebook. They will take the notebook home over the summer and use the page to complete each task. You can glue the poem to the front of the notebook.

This is also a great product for any parent looking for an easy answer to the all-too-familiar "I'M BORED!!!!" during the summer!
