The purpose of these games is to improve number recognition and addition and subtraction fluency; while your students are having fun!

These mats are themed for the end of the year, or for summer but can be used anytime.

These games can be used for individual practice for morning work, during a math center, or for homework. These games can also be used with a partner or in small group setting to reinforce skills or teach new addition and subtraction strategies. These games are especially perfect for math centers at the end of the year- these games are a fun fresh way to review skills and strategies.

This pack reinforces addition and subtraction strategies from the Common Core. Strategies include: adding and subtracting one from a number, mentally adding ten, and using double and doubles plus and minus one facts to solve equations.

This pack can be easily differentiated as it contains 17 different colored game boards and recording sheets. As a special education teacher I use this pack across three grade levels with very different learners. There is a roll and cover mat for every ability level in your class!

Games included range from using 1 die to 4 dice.

1 die games :
- Identifying numbers 1-6
-+1 and -1 after rolling
-doubling a number (1-6)
-adding 10 to a number

Games with 2 dice:
-Adding numbers to 12
-+ 1 and -1 after rolling
-doubling a number (1-12)
- Doubles +1
-Doubles -1
-adding 10 to a number

Games with 3 dice:
-Adding three numbers (3-18)
-+1 and -1 after rolling
-Adding two numbers, subtracting one

Games with 4 dice:
-Adding three numbers, subtracting the smallest number

Included in this pack are roll and cover recording sheet for each of the dice activities, students can fill out these sheets independently, in pairs, or in small groups. Teachers can use these recording sheets as a way to assess student’s ability to add and subtract numbers.

This pack is aligned to the Common Core standards:

CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.A.2 Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).

CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.C.6 Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 – 4 = 13 – 3 – 1 = 10 – 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 – 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).

CCSS.Math.Content.1.NBT.C.5 Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used.

CCSS.Math.Content.2.OA.B.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.2 By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
