Are you looking for a worthwhile summer assignment for your students? Try something new this year, with my Summer STEAM Journal. If you haven't heard of STEAM [or STEM], it is an incredible way to immerse students in real-world skills and concepts.
Last year, I purchased composition notebooks at the Dollar Store, glued the STEAM Journal directions and prompts into the journal, and gave it to my incoming fourth graders the week before summer break. They all brought back their journal on the first day of school the following September. They were able to talk about their STEAM experiences, which were relevant and meaningful. The students were writing at least once a week throughout the summer, and they had fun in the process.
