The first lessons of the summer and or first weeks are designed to re-acculturate students to the school's mission, core values, school wide and classroom procedures. In general, students will learn the expectations for how they should conduct themselves in both the school and classroom communities. Specifically, students in Writing will know and be able to form cursive letters A-Z, identify and correct different types of errors using editing marks, and recognize opportunities to revise sentences.
Additionally, students will read the book Sarney as a preliminary to launching Writer’s Workshop. Sarney will be used to set a powerful tone and as a reminder that writing is an earned privilege. In addition to reading this text, students will review basic skills including identifying errors in punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure.
