Writing Templates for Emergent Writers (Kindergarten-Grade 1)
I created this resource for my own emergent writer when he was between Kindergarten and Grade 1. Like many of his peers, he is learning to read and loves to draw, but still finds writing a challenge. For students like this, providing a sentence starter they just have to finish, can make the writing task seem more manageable. It is important to let children at this age start with drawing a picture. It is a recognized stage in the writing continuum and allows them to focus their thoughts about what it is they want to write. At this stage, they are essentially writing a "caption" for their drawing. And that's okay!
This resource comes with 20 different templates including a blank you can use for your own sentence starter and one with two lines for young writers who are ready for the independence of writing a whole sentence by themselves.
Working with your own young writer at home? I've also included some tips for parents to help make writing time fun and engaging.
This resource can also be purchased as part of the Summer Writing Bundle for Little Learners

I hope this helps!
