Product Description
This is a summer themed packet filled with lots of opportunity to practice sorting items (and words) into two groups. Included are:

* Ideas for introducing and extending concept of two group sorting
* Original sorting poem “The World I See” with two rhyming worksheets to go with
poem
* Ten sorting printables with the following themes:
hats, summer treats, shoes, flowers, shorts, balls, suns, fish, starfish and a word sort
(using words from the poem)
* “Which One Doesn’t Belong” worksheet

I consider these open-ended, language building tasks that promote vocabulary development and provide an opportunity for students to see other points of view. What I enjoy most about these sorting activities is that there is no right or wrong answer. Students may come up with a variety of different reasons for their sorting decision and be able to justify their sorting rule. In addition to lots of fun sorting, and talking about their sorting decisions, what I hope students would ultimately learn is that there is more than one way to “see” something. The poem is meant as an introduction to this very important idea.
