Make a splash with these adorable beach/summer themed literacy/ word work centers! These hands-on literacy/ word work are fun and engaging for students. Plus, they are all aligned to the 2nd grade common core standards! Each cover page and worksheet contains the common core standard(s) that activity aligns with. These are such a fun way to end the year, celebrate a beach day, or even to use in a summer school classroom. Check out the preview for a better look.
The centers includes:
A Day at the Beach: students match cards with the same vowel sounds, and discriminate between short and long vowel sounds.
Seashells by the Seashore: Students decode 2 syllable words with long vowel, and draw them on a recording sheet.
Beach Party Riddles: This is a write the room activity where students read riddles and have to figure out which compound beach word is being described.
Sunny Day Suffixes: Students have to choose the correct suffix, and then explain the meaning of the word.
Pool Party Prefixes: Students have to choose the correct prefix, and then explain the meaning of the word.
Fishy Fix Up: Students read 4 sentences and have to find the mistakes and rewrite them correctly on a recording sheet.
