Description
Sunday School Lesson About Hannah and Samuel
"For This Child, I Have Prayed”
Sunday School Lesson from 1 Samuel 1
Children will learn about Hannah from the Old Testament in the Bible.
This story takes place about 1100 B.C. in a town called Ramah about 5 miles away from Jerusalem. Elkanah, the husband in this story, was married to Peninnah and Hannah. He loved Hannah more than he loved Peninnah even though Peninnah had lots of children and Hannah had none. In this Bible story, the children will learn that sometimes we are disappointed when we don't get our way or get what we desire. Hannah very much wanted a baby, and after years of yearning, she still didn't have a child.
Your class will study how Hannah responded, how she prayed, and how God answered her prayer.

Optional Activities
#1 - Students will locate Ramah on a map and look up other significant events that happened in Ramah from the Bible.
#2 - Question Sheet - Questions can be answered individually or as a group.
#3 - Word Scramble - Use a list to unscramble words from 1 Samuel 1.
#4 - Bible Word Search - Find words related to Hannah and Samuel.
#5 - Game Idea - Hannah always kept her hope and trust in God. For years, she hoped for a baby and never had one. However, Hannah persevered in her prayers to God. Sometimes we pray, and we don’t get an answer right away. We may feel frustrated. Sometimes we let our own doubts, tiredness, lack of time, or the thoughts of others get in the way of our prayer life. Hannah refused to give up praying, and God answered Hannah by giving her a child. Our game today will teach us to stay focused on God, even when obstacles are in our way. (Balloons and empty paper towel rolls are needed for this game).
#6 - Story Sequencing Cards- Cut out the pictures and arrange them into the correct order to create the story from 1 Samuel 1 from beginning to end. Then glue the pictures in the correct order on another page.
This is a great Sunday school lesson from the Old Testament. This could also be used as a sub plan for Christian elementary schools. No prep work needed. Please make sure to check out the preview for more details.
