These seven problem solving steps are based on the Singapore Math strategy of model drawing.
Step 1 - Read the entire problem.
Step 2 - Rewrite the problem as a sentence. Leave a blank for the answer.
Step 3 - Determine who and what is involved in the problem.
Step 4 - Draw the unit bars.
Step 5 - Chunk the problem, adjust the unit bars and fill in the question mark.
Step 6 - Correctly compute and solve the problem.
Step 7 - Write the answer in the sentence and make sure it makes sense.
Each step has a corresponding owl superhero. Use these posters to introduce model drawing and reinforce the skill in guided math groups or independent practice.
