VA SOL 4.3 & 5.3 Media Messages

Teacher Notes:
The entire document is created in Google Slides. To access the resource, click on the link in the title page of this document. To distribute a copy to each of your students, I suggest creating an assignment in Google Classroom. This will allow you to “make a copy” for each student. Directions on how to answer each slide are in the slide notes. The presentation is meant to be used in the editing mode, not present mode. This allows the students to answer the questions.

This activity is meant to be a 1:1 activity where students watch the commercial, and then answer the questions on the slide. In order to do this- they will stay in edit mode and not go to present mode. The activity would also work as a teacher led lesson, shown on an interactive whiteboard and students could answer the questions as a whole group discussion.

Question Formats & Answering
Most questions can be answered by selecting one or more answers, then choosing the paint bucket tool and selecting a color to fill in the choice. Other answers may need to be typed into the box or drag and drop format. Directions are on each slide. Students should stay in edit mode (NOT PRESENT MODE).

Assigning to Students
I suggest making this an assignment in Google Classroom and choosing the file from your Google Drive to attach. Then, select “make a copy” for each student. If students have their own devices: iPads, Laptops, or Chromebooks then they will be able to manipulate the slideshow independently. Work can be easily graded or checked in Google Classroom.
