In this unit students will investigate polymers by creating a bounce ball and connect that to the super heros Mr. Fabulous and Plastic Man. This set in includes the following:
2. Lab instructions for creating Super Ball (Bounce Ball)
3. Lab "Thinking" Sheet.
4. Reflection/Lab Notes Paper
5. Creating your super hero organizer.
6. Creating your villain organizer.
This mini-unit was created to integrate scientific thinking and literacy. All good scientist (and thinkers) Wonder, Notice, and Image. These activities encourage our young thinkers to do just those things. I used this in a two and a half hour enrichment class; however they could also be used in a regular classroom setting.
I used this with grades 1-3; however, it can be adapted to work with all elementary grade levels. The discussion and reading skills involved in the LAB could also work to meet a variety of ELA Speaking and Listening common Core standards.
This is also ideal for those who are gifted and talented; as the tasks are open ended. It would also be a "SUPER-FUN" activity for parents to do at home with their children.
Please download the preview file to see if this will work for your class.
