There are two copies of this FILLABLE PDF graphic organizer created by Miss Winning's Classroom. The first page has tips for students on how to identify main ideas and details and how to use the chart to summarize the details and information in non-fiction texts. This first copy can be used for practice activities or to help students who require extra support. The second page has no tips and a little more writing space. I use this one for assessing the students’ learning of this concept once they’ve had a few opportunities to practice.
The download is now a zip drive with 3 files - one file of each sheet on its own and one file with both sheets together (so students can work with support or independently, or both!)
This organizer could be used to work on summarizing skills, as a reading comprehension activity, and/or to prepare students to write a summary paragraph.
