Teaching revising and editing to young students can seem like a daunting task. In the process of writing, it can be a neglected or even skipped step for young writers. I’ve created materials for a Revising and Editing toolbox that turns the sometimes dreaded processes of revising and editing into fun and collaborative learning activities. Included in my resource pack are printables and instructions on how to make your own Revising and Editing toolboxes for your Writers’ Workshop as well as ideas on how to use the materials with your students.

Also included are three revising posters and labels for your own toolboxes.

These toolboxes help students learn about revising and editing. They allow students to approximate what real writers do in a fun and hands-on way with props! Who doesn’t love props? Since introducing these toolboxes in my Writers’ Workshop, I have seen students excited about collaborating with others to make changes in their pieces. I’ve noticed my students being deliberate with their word choice and sentences. I’ve seen them having fun! Your students can too!
