Promote higher order thinking skills, teach narrative writing, and encourage creative fun as your students plan and write a superhero action story. This 5-page activity is highly scaffolded with graphic organizers to guide students through each step of the process making it flexible for differentiation and more accessible for EFL/ESL/ELD students. Academic vocabulary is imbedded throughout the activity. This activity may be done in collaborative groups or individually.
COMMON CORE ANCHOR STANDARDS FOR WRITING:
3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.
4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
5: Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.
If technology is used to create and/or publish the projects:
6: Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others.
The students will create a superhero then organize and write a superhero action story.
The students will also do the following:
--Create imagery with sensory details
--Organize the plot with chronological order.
--Organize a scene with spatial order.
-- Blend the information from the planning guide to create an action-packed, creative, and entertaining superhero story.
The students are encouraged to use their imaginations, be creative, and have fun.
