My GATE students loved this engaging unit! Students will research a real life historical hero and use symbolism to transform their story into a Superhero story! This unit is a great combination of Language Arts and Writing, History, and Research skills. It also provides a chance for your students to showcase their creative and abstract thinking abilities.
Everything you need is organized in an easy to follow, step-by-step format.
Step1: Learn about types of conflict in stories, protagonists, and antagonists.
Step 2: Research a real historical person who has overcome a conflict in a heroic way.
Step 3: Make a plot diagram to show the “story” of that person’s life.
Step 4: Use symbolism to transform your real life person into a superhero!
Step 5: Make a plot diagram to show the “story” of your superhero.
Step 6: Choose from the options to write a short story and add a creative element.
This unit could take about 15 hours of classroom time.
