PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

"Silly Stories" are my creation, akin to Mad Libs but set up in a format that is easy for students to follow and learn from, moving from vocabulary brainstorming to listening dictation to story creation.

"Superhero Identities" is a news flash revealing the true identities behind four superheroes' personas. The silliness involves creating new superheroes revealed to be classmates, such Confused Man, who is purple and tall, and is revealed to be a dentist with a classmate's name; this is all completely random, depending on what words the students choose.

The lesson begins with filling in the words for their Silly Story without knowing the topic of the story. This is an excellent chance to give students a chance to explore and show off what they know; for students who's English level is low, it's a great chance for them to learn new words of their own choosing.

The lesson then moves into a simple listening dictation exercise, wherein they listen to a story and fill in the blanks on the worksheet. This allows them to focus on listening and, when they repeat what they heard, to sharpen their pronunciation skills. This is also where they learn the meaning of the original story, on which the Silly Story is based.

Finally, the students return to their word lists and complete their Silly Story. Since they already understand the story structure, the wackiness of the Silly Story is hilarious instead of confusing.

"Superhero Identities" is a Silly Story activity. The focus of learning are the grammar patterns "This is [Name]," "He's/She's [adj]," "He/She isn't [adj]," and "He/She is a [job]."

This product includes an audio file (speaking and special effects); a worksheet with a fill-in-the-blank dictation, a table for writing Silly Story vocabulary, a fill-in-the-blank Silly Story; a READ ME file with explanations and examples for teaching; and a board layout for beginning the lesson. The dictation and Silly Story are directly related, allowing for easy transition and understanding.
