This is my Physical Science Superhero Project. This is one of my students’ favorite assignments. Many of them already come to 5th grade excited about this and ask when we will do it. In this project, students apply physical science topics from class to superpowers. Students create a superhero using print resources and websites and show me that they understand physical science concepts through their application of how the superpowers they choose work. There are 4 formats here: one file folder format, and 3 poster formats (regular, advanced, and lower). I have also included rubrics for each, make up slips, and class presentations recording sheets.
Students use this project to show what they have learned about matter, solutions, types of energy and force by applying these concepts to superpowers. They present a superhero with physical science related superpowers. They can chose from existing superheroes or create their own superhero. After all projects are turned in and presented, kids get to trade their trading cards with their classmates and have a collection of superheroes in their pocket!
I use this with 5th graders in Texas, but it can easily be used for any grade studying physical science. Handouts, comic form, examples, and rubric are all included.
