I love using special interests to refresh, teach or reinforce other lessons. My kids really get a kick out of and tend to pay attention throughout the whole lesson. This short social story goes over some of the basic rules I typically need to cover with my students with social cognitive deficits - check in and see how your audience is doing after you say 3 things, don't ask questions you already know the answers to, don't talk about how sick or tired you are, ask other people questions about themselves and sometimes it's ok not to talk, just smile. We use thought bubbles to get a little perspective taking in as well. Each one of the "rules" has a practice scenario to have you student decide if the superhero is following the rule.
