This thorough and comprehensive syntax resource is perfect for students who need to work on understanding grammar. It can also be used for simple reading comprehension, for students who have marked difficulty with understanding simple sentences they've read, such as the ASD population.

Directions:

Use the given prompts and corresponding visuals to practice understanding a variety of grammatical forms. Students must point to the correct picture after a prompt is read to him (or he reads it to himself). Vary the order in which the prompts are read so the student does not notice a pattern.

If using as a reading comprehension task, give students cards with written prompts (pages 76-77) and have them match the sentence to the correct picture.

The resource can be assembled in two ways: a flip book or flashcards.

To make flashcards, simply cut along all solid lines. Numbers on the each card indicate the corresponding visuals and prompts.

To make a flip book:

Cut top half and bottom half apart by making a single cut along the middle horizontal line. Do NOT cut along vertical lines (between pictures).

Glue top and bottom halves on top of each other, with printed sides facing in.

Place all pages on top of each other in numerical order.

Use a two hole punch and book rings or a book binding machine to bind all pages together. (Use sticker tabs to separate sections, if desired.)

Now, a flip book has been assembled, with a teacher side and a student side.
