There are several sections with graphic organizers, activities, writing centers, prompts and vocabulary, and stationary for publishing. There are activities for writing different genres: biography, articles, narrative, and even graphic novels.

What's Included:

CREATING YOUR SUPERHERO

Several graphic organizers designed to guide a student through creating their own main character.

TIMELINE AND BIOGRAPHY WRITING

What is a biography? Let's write one about our superhero! This project allows students the opportunity to give their superhero a background and will help the student into developing details about their character's life.

NARRATIVE WRITING

Now that we have a character and know all about him/her, let's get to writing! Students will use a series of planning strategies to set up a thick plot in which their hero is the main character. They'll learn to write a bold beginning, a magnificent middle, and an exciting ending.

COMIC BOOK/GRAPHIC NOVEL WRITING

Using their narrative story, students can take it a step further and create their own graphic novel or comic book. Several different printouts are available for lots of different styles.

VOCABULARY AND GRAMMAR

Need some help with strong adjectives or writing complex sentences? Students can practice and plan out some strong vocabulary to help support their writing.

WRITING PROMPT CARDS

Add these superhero themed writing prompts to an existing writing center or to journal activities throughout the unit. Students will use a mixture of creative writing as well as self connections to answer the questions. Writing paper included.

(NOTE: These writing prompts are also available, but not included in this download, as a digital Google Slides activity. CLICK HERE for the digital writing prompts).

SUPERHERO INTERVIEWS

Everyone has their superhero ready and knows them like the backs of the hands! Have students switch being a newspaper reporter with their peers and interview these superheroes they've created. Interview questions are provided but students are encouraged to come up with their own as well. Students will then write a newspaper article about the superhero they interviewed. Newspaper template provided.

SUPERHERO MASKS

For a fun bulletin board decoration, students can create a mask to go with the superhero they've come to love and adore. Several styles are provided to make sure each superhero finds their match.

SUPERHERO PAPER DOLLS AND PUPPETS

End the unit with a fun role play! Students create their superhero with the provided paper pieces that can be used as puppets or paper dolls. Have the superheroes stay in character and perform for the class or simply use them as decorations for your writing displays.

Update History:
