Product Description

This is an activity I would use in the Japanese junior high schools I taught at for my second to last lesson of the school year. I would make it a big cultural lesson about how in America we have school yearbooks in junior and high schools. I would then explain how we have superlatives in those yearbooks where we decide who in our class is the best in different categories. This is NOT a concept Japanese students have so please explain it carefully.

I would limit the students each class is allowed to choose to their own class. That way more students get chosen. You could also use this as part of a lesson on superlatives but it makes more sense at the end of the year.

A maximum of 20 students can be chosen and students can only be chosen once. This may mean that not everyone is chosen, but it ensures that even some of the shy children get a superlative.

Be sure that they put their class number at the top so that you know whose superlatives you are looking at!

After the class chooses their superlatives, you go through each class and determine the winners for each category. It's time consuming but the children really love the results! Many of my classes asked to keep the results and hang it in their classroom.

I have included an English and an English/Japanese version (thanks to my lovely sister Yuka).

I assure you it is something you can use year after year! Enjoy!
