This supplemental resource supports the unit of study available in my store for teaching Biographies in both the Reading and Writing Workshops. It was created to give teachers practical practice and assessment opportunities that support the 40 minilessons found in the unit of study.
The 20 printable graphic organizers correspond with the 20 reading minilessons. You can easily match each graphic organizer with the lesson by noticing the lesson number on the bottom right corner of each graphic organizer.
There are also 20 thinkmark/bookmarks that align with the reading lessons in the unit. Students can complete these during independent reading time as a way to show their understanding of the reading strategy taught during the mini lesson. They are a great way to hold students accountable for what they know!
Revising and editing checklists are included and highlight specific writing strategies that were taught during this unit. Writing rubrics are also included, with specific objectives that match the lessons taught during the unit. This way you can assess students’ writing skills based on the lessons you taught in class! The rubrics are available with a 100 point scale, a 1-3 scale, and a blank version for you to complete as well.
Cover pages are included in both color and black & white. Teachers often create reading booklets with the graphic organizers. These cover pages are a fun way to tie all the learning together in this unit!
