This interactive game teaches students about the forces of supply and demand in addition to the effects of the Industrial Revolution on various groups.
1/2 of the class are buyers of cloth and 1/2 of the class are sellers of cloth. Each card has a specific amount to spend/sell for along with a story that explains why the student has that amount of money. Students need to bargain with the other 1/2 of the class to come up with a deal that satisfies both sides. The teacher charts the price of each deal and students will find that most end up settling somewhere in the middle. The teacher can use this to initiate a discussion of Smith's forces of supply and demand. Students will also understand the effects of the Industrial Revolution on individual craftspeople, whose cloth is more expensive.
Set includes: Set of buyers' cards, set of sellers' cards, student handout, teacher's chart, debriefing questions.
