This activity was developed to help emergent learners recognize that readers solve “tricky” words using multiple strategies. As much as we prompt for this and provide icons to support students, there are always a few that need to understand this skill using a different modality.
I use this in small intervention groups so that it can be modeled and secured before sending home for further practice. It is a hands-on activity to help develop an understanding of using multiple strategies for solving. It is not intended to be used throughout the text, as it would compromise the sense of story, fluency, and comprehension.
Included is a Parent Guide explaining each strategy to help support their child's reading at home. This would also be appropriate for Tier II interventions.
You can get TPT credit to use on future purchases! This is how:
• Go to your "My Purchases" page (you may need to login). Beside each purchase you'll see a Provide Feedback button. Simply click it and you will be taken to a page where you can give a quick rating and leave a short comment for the product. Each time you give feedback, TPT gives you feedback credits that you use to lower the cost of your future purchases. I value your feedback, as it helps me determine which products are most valuable for your classroom so I can create more. Please consider leaving your thoughts.
