This is a three part unit covering important Supreme Court cases that deal with issues concerning the rights of the accused. Included in the download are write ups for Mapp v. Ohio, Gideon v. Wainwright, and Miranda v. Arizona. The write ups give important background information on the cases as well as explanations for the Court's decisions. The issues in the cases include search warrants, protection against self incrimination, the right to an attorney, incorporation, and the Miranda warning. Each unit also has student activities to accompany the readings. The unit includes three guided reading activities, three sets of true and false questions, three sets of vocabulary activities, three student response essay questions, three sets of multiple choice reading comprehension questions, and a word builder activity to wrap up the unit. There are enough activities to fill around three 30 to 40 minute segments of a history or government class.
