This is a complete lesson plan guiding students to find the surface area of rectangular prisms using the surface area formula.
This is a two-day lesson for two double-period classes, but some of the activities can be removed to shorten the length. Additional activities include: calculating the surface area by opening the figure into a net, a kinesthetic activity, and a reading activity.
There are also real-world problems along with an additional worksheet on finding the surface area of a prism that is missing one face.
This lesson includes an opening activity/warm-up, minilesson with guided steps through the process, examples, several class activities and a worksheet for homework. Answer keys included.
Common Core Standards included on cover page for 6th and 7th grades, and High School Geometry.
I also have a lesson plan on finding the surface area of cylinders posted in my TPT store.
Both pdf and Word files are included in the zip folder.
