This is a highly visual activity involving surface tension that never fails to interest children! The effect can be used for an ELA writing hook. All the science behind the colorful effect is described and includes how to run the activity an inquiry fashion (comparing the effects of cold and warm milk). For those that have document cameras, this resource describes how to use it to project the colorful demonstration. A student sheet is provided for students to draw their observations and to write a description of the effect using provided vocabulary words. There are also ideas for extension activities presented.
This individual resource is also part of an all-inclusive bundle for the topic of surface tension. You will save a full 25% on each resource when you purchase this bundle!
