This is a group lap in which students measure rectangular prisms and cylinders in order to calculate the surface area or volume. Then, students change an attribute (such as the length or width) by adding an identical prism or cylinder to the original. Students then calculate the SA or V after the attribute has been changed and described specifically how the attribute changed. Page 2 consists of follow-up questions and other problems related to changing attributes.
Different boxes and cylinders can be used, this is a fill-in-the-blank activity. See the answer key on page 3 for more information.
