The unit starts with lessons using Pixar shorts to teach plot, characterization, and tone and mood. Then students study three short stories to practice recognizing the concepts they just learned, as well as elements of Gothic literature. Then, students are asked to demonstrate what they’ve learned by writing their own short story and explaining how it fits the elements previously studied.
The unit INCLUDES the four lessons linked below PLUS the final creative writing assignment rubric!

Many of my students remember this as one of their favorite parts of English 10, despite the fact that it is very short. I like to use it around Halloween.
