This superbly designed Surrealism Powerpoint centers on the art style known as Surrealism. The lesson starts with a Do Now for students to begin thinking about what they see, practicing the description portion of art criticism.
Students are introduced to the major characteristics of Surrealism as well as four major artists including Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, Joan Miro, and Yves Tanguy. Students are able to view and discuss a number of Surrealist paintings, understanding the styles of each artist and Surrealism as a whole. At the end of the presentation, there is an informal quiz to check for student understanding. They may answer independently or work as a group. Lastly, students are asked to reflect on their lesson, making a judgment on the style as a whole. More importantly they are asked to back up their opinion with valid reasons.
