Students will be asked to watch a video about the condition of General Robert E. Lee's army at the end of the American Civil War and his decision to surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant. An article with a historical accounting of the surrender, the terms of the surrender, and the eventual collapse of the Confederacy is also required reading before beginning the webquest. The Confederate abandonment of Richmond, Lee's inability to escape with his army without the Union pursuing him, and Lee's realization that the war was lost are all covered in this assignment.
