This can be an eye-opening exercise for students. It can be used for social studies, sociology, or as an introduction to a propaganda unit in communications or ELA. In the first part of the worksheet, students will identify their current understanding of the social and political climate of the U.S.A. (topics include crime, immigration, gun violence, etc). On the second page, students will research these topics and provide the actual information/data based on their research. Often times, their assumptions are different from the truth. This activity usually opens up opportunities for meaningful conversations and debates in the classroom.
