This open-ended critical thinking activity is perfect for gifted and talented middle grades students. Students are stranded in the middle of the ocean, and must figure out a way to return. A video, shark music, and rubric help steer students through their exploration. The activity culminates with a student-generated mock news story chronicling the ordeal. Use this unit in part or whole to introduce a survival themed novel, provide a problem/solution bell-ringer, or extend the learning in the classroom. This activity uses cooperative learning, research, technology, geography, science, literacy, critical thinking, and speaking and listening skills. Who wouldn't want to be set adrift in a storm with their middle school people? Thanks for choosing NoBox resources.
