Three activities based on Susan B.Anthony.
1- A web requiring students to research specific topics related to Susan B. Anthony. The information is then used to write an informational paragraph.
2- A sequence of events chain for her life. Students cut apart and assemble the chain of events in order.
3- Speech Challenge Activity: Students research and learn about the 14th amendment and Susan B. Anthony's trial. There is a sheet with specific questions in regards to the amendment and what she was accused of. A second sheet allows the students to develop reasons she was either guilty/not guilty and support those reasons. Using this sheet, they write a "speech" to read to the jury.
I allowed my 3rd grade class to choose one of the activities to complete after our unit on Susan B.Anthony. A few students chose the easier of the three, most chose the web and writing task, but a few did choose the speech. It was a challenging task and involved some one-on-one conferencing and extended, but it turned out great!
