These questions are a great way to practice students finding, citing, and explaining their evidence, while also analyzing some of the tools of suspense Poe is using (dramatic irony and unreliable narrators in particular).

I use "The Tell-Tale Heart" and these questions within a larger unit in which we analyze tools of suspense in short stories, and then the unit culminates in my students writing their own suspenseful short story applying these tools. (See some of my other SUSPENSE items in my shop.)

You will need a copy of “The Tell-Tale Heart.”

I didn’t include a key because there are so many correct answers! What is really important in this activity is that students are including great evidence to back up their points, and then also practicing elaborating on that evidence.
