Shoo Fly, don’t both me! These cards and game are sure to be a “hit” with your students. To play, cards will be scattered in the middle of the room. Students will sit in a line with their team around the perimeter of the room (2-4 teams are ideal.) The teacher will sing or play a pattern and one member from each team will race to find the card that matches. But the fun doesn’t stop there: in order to earn the card their team must be able to play the found pattern on their recorders!
Teams will try to swat as many flies as they can. To make it even more fun, have the students who are swatting flies use fly swatters. You can even find GIANT fly swatters at the Dollar Tree that are a blast!
Differentiation is made easy with this game: to make the game easier, the teacher will sing the melody on absolute pitch names for the easiest version. To make it harder, the teacher can sing the melody on “loo” only or play the patterns on the recorder or another instrument.
Included in this file are:
* Warm-up cards
* Cards that have 4 beat patterns extracted from actual song material that contains the notes D-E-B-A-G-C'-D'
* Music notation for the songs from which the patterns are extracted. (all songs use only the notes DEBAGC'D' so students can play the entire song!)
