Product Description
This is one of my favorite books to use in my quilt social studies unit that I teach to my second grade class! This story written by Deborah Hopkinson depicts the life of a young slave that creates a quilt to secretly tell the way to freedom. My product includes vocabulary printables that can help review the words that might need a little explaining before reading. The unit also includes a page of pre-reading questions that I like to use for morning work. It kind of jumpstarts the conversations between students predicting what the story will be about. Follow that with a three-page study guide or comprehension review with short answer questions. Also included are two extended writing worksheets. My new addition is a homework sheet. Have you ever had a hard time trying to think of meaningful things that your students can do for homework? My homework sheet plans your homework for you. Students will have a choice each night between two assignments. Some are more hands on, but I tried to leave one option for students to do on their own if parents aren't available to help. The other option is slightly harder but the option for the typical student that wants to learn a little more and has the ability to research. Enjoy Everyone! Ashlee Kinser
