This resource is a collection of questions and activities that have worked well in my AP Language and Composition classroom for "Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong" from O'Brien's The Things They Carried. While these questions work well for AP Lang, they can be used in other advanced English courses or adapted for regular English 10 - 12.
In this resource you can find the following:
1) Guided questions on author's purpose, motifs, characterization, and themes. These questions can be returned to periodically and used for written responses, group discussions, whole class discussions, and Socratic seminars. I've also added a silent discussion activity that can be used with these questions.
2) A "motif" analysis activity with a graphic organizer.
3) Passage analysis with sample close reading
4) Character analysis activities
Please see the preview for a clearer look at this resource. Feel free to use the Q&A option if you have any questions.
