Sweets and Treats Valentine’s Centers are a great tool to reinforce Common Core skills while celebrating the holiday! There are 12 hands-on centers altogether, 6 Math and 6 Literacy. Each center includes a cover sheet with directions, center cards, and a corresponding response sheet. Here is a brief description of each center:
Lovely ABC Order – Students will read each Valentine word. They will put the words in alphabetical order (to the first and second letter).
Cute Candy Contractions – Students will match the contraction with the 2 words it comes from.
Sugary Syllable Sort – Students will sort the Valentine words into groups of 1, 2, or 3 syllables.
Cupcake Compounds – Students will put 2 words together to make a compound word.
Sweet Parts of Speech – Students will sort the Valentine words into nouns, adjectives, and verbs.
Super Valentine Sentences – Students will sort the words by picture. Then they will put the words in order to make a complete sentence.

Costly cupcakes – Students will match the cupcake with the coins that match the amount.
Candy Counting – Students will sort the pictures. They will use skip counting to put the numbers in order from least to greatest.
Valentine More and Less – Students will use a paperclip and pencil to spin 2 wheels. They will add or subtract depending on where they land.
Melvin Moose Graphing – Students will sort, count, and graph the pictures. They will use their graph to answer the questions on their response sheet.
