“Swimmy” Cooperation Friendship Lesson Character Ed 3 video & Activity
I love the book, “Swimmy” by Leo Lionni, don’t you?? It is so cute, and the illustrations are just perfect. Swimmy is a fish who loses his school and goes on to find another school to join. The new school of fish is afraid to go out and swim and have fun because of the big fish around. Swimmy figures out that if they all work together and cooperate that they can scare away the big fish and get to enjoy life. What a wonderful story.
It includes 14 slides and links to 3 videos which includes a link to a video of Counselor Bev reading the story. Videos are short and drive the message of cooperation and friendship. They are all very upbeat. One is a Sesame Street one with Big Bird and Friends. So cute!
An easy to prep activity is included, also. The kids will just love this lesson. At the end is a list with links to additional resources for extending this lesson into science, math, writing, and other subject areas.
I would schedule at least 30 minutes for this lesson and activity, and it could easily take longer if you encourage discussion. This is a ready-made lesson that will require no prep except to gather the materials for the activity, if you choose to use it. How convenient can you get??
The PowerPoint is easily personalized and includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
