After reading "Swimmy" by Leo Lionni and discussing how similes are used to describe something through comparison, students create their own underwater simile sentences. The first page of the download contains Swimmy pictures for each student to cut out and use when they complete their sentences. The second page of the download is he student worksheet. Each student will use a simile to describe an underwater animal that Swimmy saw or might see in his travels under the water. After the complete their sentence by filling in the blanks, students will illustrate their sentence and glue the Swimmy they cut out into their underwater simile illustration. The final page of the download is a cover to use for the class book. Once all the students have created their similes and illustrations bind them together for them to take home and share with their families.
