First - sixth grade students each create their own illustration using a swirl. A story evolves in the students' heads as the pictures are created. Students write their stories on either primary or upper lined paper.
This is a highly successful technique for consistently producing uniquely different stories from each of your students. Since they are not language specific, they can be used for English or Spanish-speaking students equally well, or successfully adapted for any language group.
The swirls produce creative writing at its very best. The project is open-ended, needing little teacher direction beyond the initial introduction.
