These Number Jar brain teasers require students to find which two or three numbers can be swapped so that both jars (or equations) are equal to one another. When working with these problems, students are integrating their understanding of addition, subtraction, missing addends, and commutative property. I have designed these prompts to be increasingly difficult. With that said, please understand that these are incredibly challenging tasks. I introduce them in Quarter 4 and initially, it still takes a considerable amount of prompting and support. When students begin to understand the premise, it is magic with so many light bulb moments.
