It is important for students to recognize syllables in words. The ability to apply word analysis skills when decoding words is fundamental to reading words with multiple syllables. "Syllable Beat" was created by Betty Jo Evers so children can practice dividing words into 1-4 syllables. Emphasis is on three useful principles for chunking longer words into syllables. Each of the 20 word cards includes the picture as well as the picture name. "Syllable Beat" cards make ideal activities for Literacy Centers. Student Recording Sheets and Answer Sheets are included. "Syllable Beat" is aligned with the CCSS but may be used with or without knowledge of the Core Standards.
