Thank you so much for viewing this quick little intervention set. It was designed to engage the students in a brief session of syllable deletion. Directions for use are included.
*picture cards from pack that are laminated and cut out
How to use:
Say: We are going to play a game with words where one part of the word is left out. For example, sunshine without the shine is sun. Now you say airline without air. (The child should say line.) Now we will do some more words like this. Teacher will then grab a random picture card from the pack and tell the child which syllable to leave off, using the following sentence structure: (Say downtown without down.)
If the child is able to do the task, allow them to hold the card as a reward.
This could even be done as a game in a small group.
Continue doing this intensely with the remaining syllable cards for about 5 minutes or so.
Use again daily if possible until the student has a firm understanding of syllable deletion.
There are 60 cards in all!
This is a skill needed for the Phonological Awareness Skill Test (P.A.S.T) – Skill #7
