Description

This is a wonderful multisensory syllable division activity that works well in an Orton Gillingham style decoding lesson. My students enjoy it and it is very effective in teaching syllable division patterns. Your students will actually cut (with scissors) words into syllables! This activity works very well with older struggling readers. I've also used it with small groups of first and second-graders.

To prepare this multisensory lesson you simply print out the strips and cut them into individual words. Each student will need two different colored markers or highlighters and a pair of scissors.

I've included words that follow syllable division patterns one (vc/cv), two and three (v/cv, vc/v), four (/cle), and five (v/v).

You get:

  • Syllable Division Pattern reference pages
  • Syllable division strips for all patterns--I include enough for several lessons
  • Notebook pages for students to glue strips
  • Directions
  • Recording sheet

This packet has been revised and now has syllable strips for syllable division patterns 1-5!
