Thank you so much for viewing this quick little intervention set. It was designed to engage the students in a brief session of syllable segmentation. Directions for use are included.
*picture cards from pack that are laminated and cut out
*transparent bingo chips (any color)
How to use:
Say: I’m going to say a word and then break it into parts, or syllables.
Say: rainbow (say it normally and clap out the two parts in rainbow while saying each part.)
Then say: rainbow (this time, push up a chip as you say each syllable.)
Continue the practice by showing the student a card and telling them the word. Then repeat the word in its syllable parts while the student pushes forward bingo chips for each syllable. If the student is confident with the skill, have them say the word in its parts back to you.
This could even be done as a game in a small group.
Continue doing this intensely with the remaining syllable cards for about 5 minutes or so.
Use again daily if possible until the student has a firm understanding of syllable segmentation.
There are 60 cards in all!
This is a skill needed for the Phonological Awareness Skill Test (P.A.S.T) – Skill #5
