“Syllable Slides” is an activity for reviewing the six types of syllables – Closed, Vowel-Consonant-E, Open, Consonant-le, Vowel-R, and Double Vowel or Vowel Teams.

Print and laminate the gameboards and the word cards. Trim and tape the gameboards together (START goes at the bottom of the board – if you only want a 2-page gameboard instead of 3, leave out page 4). Cut out and shuffle the word cards. Students take turns drawing a card, reading the word and deciding the type of syllable. They then move to the next spot with that type of syllable designated. As they progress through the gameboard, they will climb up or slide down as indicated.
