Product Description

Syllable stress is somewhat of an abstract idea. Explaining it can be difficult! I created this simple explanation "poster" and 2 sorting mats to introduce one of my students to the concept of syllable stress.

Use the "posters" to explain the concept and as a visual while the student is working. Then, you have 2 choices of activities:

1. Provide the student with multi-syllable words (using a list such as the one at http://www.readskill.com/resources/skillresourcelists/pdf/rm_syllabication.pdf). Laminate pages 4-5 and have the student write the words, one at a time, dividing the word appropriately into big syllables and little syllables.

2. Laminate and cut out the 50 2 syllable word cards provided. Have the student sort the words onto pages 6-7 to identify as big syllable first or little syllable first.
