This packet is a must after teaching open and closed syllable types! It includes words that are open and rule breaker words that appear to be open such as dragon, paper, and cabin. In this product, students are required to analyze words to determine if they are the typical open syllable words or words that break the rules and follow the closed syllable rule. It includes an exclusive
list of 202 open and closed 2-syllable words. There are no r-controlled vowels, no silent e words, no vowel digraphs or diphthongs. This means you won't have to use resources with words containing syllable types your students have not learned yet!
The no prep teaching activities include: 10 pages of breaking words into syllables, 10 pages of matching syllables, 3 match the syllables and cloze activity, 3 tic-tac-toe game boards, 6 speed reads and 1 board game. Blank pdf templates of all activities (except game board) are also included.
After instruction, review the words with the following games to play with the 41 open and closed two-syllable word cards included. Save time by prepping one set of cards to use with four different games.
